In an effort to help new members to get acquainted with all that SCBC has to offer, we have started the "Bike Buddy" Program to help our new members to get acquainted with "club riding."
Remember when you first got started? There was so much to learn from fixing a flat, to minor adjustments, when to shift, and how ride in a paceline. It all seemed strange back then, didn't it?
The odds are really good that a more experienced rider reached out to you and helped you learn the ropes. If you'd like to give back to the sport by helping someone new to get up to speed, we've got just the program for you.
Basically what our new program does is pair up a new member with a more experienced member of the club. What you'll do is contact them and arrange to meet with them on a few club rides. You'll be able to help them understand our ride classifications, and give them your assessment of which group that they might want to try first.
You can introduce them to other club members that you know, so they don't feel like a stranger. With your help, they' catch on to how things work in SCBC in no time! They'll gain a better understanding of basic things like pacelining, club ride schedules and made some more riding friends.
Why not give it a go, and see if you enjoy giving back to the sport. Contact Lisa Boudreaux (lisa_boudreaux@stancobike.org) or Tim Johnson (tim_johnson@stancobike.org) to to let them know that you want to help make this new program a success.
Also tell them a little bit about yourself and your riding skills, to help them match you with new members. Things like types of rides (flats/hills/mountains, a/b/c/d, distances), availability (days/evenings/weekends), etc. would be very helpful for them to know.
